Top Careers in Technology 2017 

Comrise recently released the article ‘Top Careers in Technology for 2016’ based on the list by U.S News. Shortly after we published our article, U.S. News released a new list for the projected ‘10 Best Jobs in Technology of 2017’. Seeing as jobs are ranked annually based on projected number of job openings, opportunity to advance and pay scale, we wanted to compare the two lists, side-by-side, to see any major differences or up and coming jobs for 2017. We also took it a step further and created a chart to show the increase in the median salary for each job that made both the 2016 and 2017 lists, pictured below:

The national unemployment rate is the lowest it's been for the past decade; we looked at the top 10 jobs in technology and their projected unemployment rates in 2017 to see how they compared to what was projected in 2016.This is what we found:

#1- Computer Systems Analyst: Remains #1 on the list for best jobs in technology.

· Unemployment rate: 2.4%

#2- Software Developer: Remains #2 on the list for the best jobs in technology.
· Projected jobs: 135,300

· Unemployment rate: 2%

#3- IT Manager: Up one spot from the previous year.
· Projected jobs: 53,700
· Median salary: $131,600
· Unemployment rate: 1.9%

#4- Web Developer: Down one spot from the previous year.
· Projected jobs: 39,500
· Median salary: $64,970
· Unemployment rate: 3.5%

#5- Computer Network Architect: This job did not make the list in 2016 but is an up and coming technology job for 2017!
· Projected jobs: 12,700
· Median salary: $100,240
· Unemployment rate: 0.6%

#6- Database Administrator: The #6 technology job two years in a row.
· Projected jobs: 13,400
· Median Salary: $84,710
· Unemployment rate: 1%

#7- Information Security Analyst: Down two spots from the previous year.
· Projected jobs: 14,800
· Median salary: $90,120
· Unemployment rate: 3.9%

#8- Computer Support Specialist: Down one spot from the previous year.
· Projected jobs: 88,800
· Median Salary: $62,250
· Unemployment rate: 3.7%

#9- Computer Systems Administrator: Down one spot from the previous year.
· Projected jobs: 30,200
· Median salary: $77,810
· Unemployment rate: 3.1%

#10- Computer Programmer: Down one spot from the previous year.
